British Rabbit Council Breed Standards

Coat Colours
The British Rabbit Council accepts the following colours for Continental Giant Rabbits within the breed standard.

Agouti
Dark Steel Grey
Light Steel Grey
White
Black
Opal
Yellow

Agouti
The Agouti colour is the wild rabbits colour A rich chestnut shade with black ticking over an intermediate orange band and dark slate under colour. Ears laced black, eye circles, underside of tail and belly to be white with a slate under colour.

Dark Steel Grey
have brown eyes and a dark under belly. They are allowed white bellies but dark are preferred in shows. The colour is ticked evenly across the head, ears, feet and body.

Light Steel Grey
A medium grey merging to a sandy / brown band with grey / blue under colour going down to the skin, the whole interspersed with grey guard hairs. Extreme tips of the fur to be tipped with gold brown. The mixture to carry well down the sides, flanks and hind feet. Belly may be a duller and lighter shade. Ears to match body. Eyes deep hazel.

White
The fur should be as white as possible, not cream, and he has red eyes. It's also possible to get the White British giants with blue eyes.

Black
The black British Giant rabbits have blue or brown eyes, and the colour may range from jet-black to blue-black, with the colour carried well down the coat.

Opal
Opal coloured Giant Rabbits have  a pale blue top colour superseding the intermediate fawn coloration in the form of a well-defined band. The under colour in these rabbits is slate blue, and their eyes match their body colour! Opal British Giant Rabbits have blue-laced ears. Over the slate under colour, the eye circles, belly and underside of tail are white.

Yellow
This unusual coloured rabbit is what is recognised as a Yellow Continental Giant rabbit, as yet they are quite rare in this country, and are mainly imported from Belgium and Holland. Their colour was only recently recognised by the British Rabbit Council in around 2005.
